NOTICE
We, his family, are sad to tell you that George Fasel died Wednesday evening, August 17, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 67.
We want you to know that George considered this blog and you -- the community which responded from around the world -- as one of the best parts of a long and successful career as writer, historian, professor, film critic, financial PR executive, and now, blogger.
We will continue to maintain the site and will be posting tributes from his family and friends. We will answer or post as many of your comments in his memory as we can.
George relied on the Film Forum in New York City, www.filmforum.org, to see hard-to-find films and films which he thought were still best seen the old way. Contributions can be made in his memory to support this resource.
If you would like to make a contribution, you can send a check, payable to The Moving Image, to: Film Forum 209 West Houston Street; New York, New York, 10014, Attn. Sonya. Please write In Memory of George Fasel on the front of the check so that your gift can be recognized as such.
Ruth, his wife.
My sincere condolences.

A great loss. I had come to admire the outstanding insight Mr. Fasel brought to a wide variety of film during the six months in which I'd been reading.
Condolences.

As saddened as I am to hear of George's passing, I'm also feeling strangely inspired and encouraged by his example. If this site is a reliable indication, he was clearly a man of great curiosity, humor, and generosity of spirit. I just can't get over the fact that, throughout the time George and I have been corresponding, he was fighting for his life.
Ruth, please know that you and your family are in my thoughts.

I was devastated to hear about George's passing. My deepest sympathies to the family.
I've been reading through the many emails I received from him in the past year and a half -- the breadth of his knowledge (matched equally with the depth of his passion) was a huge source of inspiration for many of us. He will be missed.

My sincere condolences. This is sad news. I hadn't been reading George's blog for very long, but immediately knew right away that it was of the highest quality, and came from someone who was undoubtedly thoughtful and passionate. His relatively recent piece on Bergman was amazing, as was everything he wrote. He will undoubtedly be missed.
